Facia

What is “stucco”? Stucco is a cement-like base. 

The benefits of stucco is longevity. Stucco requires much less upkeep compared to a typical paint job, because its cement, rubber-like texture is very sturdy.

One note to consider, however, is the impact of the sun. In particular, South East facing walls are susceptible to discoloration and fading of its surface color. Light colors using stucco can last up to fifteen to twenty years without requiring upkeep, while dark colors should be redone every four to five years.

The stucco will not peel like paint, however, hairline cracks can be produced on the surface. 

Siding

Wood siding is an exterior service that entails 1 inch x 6-8 inches wooden planks/slots covering the entire exterior body of the home. These act as an extra level of protection for the home, protecting the home from dangers like water damage, but are also often done as an aesthetic choice. 

Over time, many homeowners have replace wooden sides with cement siding for the purpose of increased longevity.

This exterior wood paneling can be more prone to damage, such as peeling, blistering, etc, than services like stucco. Wood is constantly expanding and changing based on weather, which can cause damage like cracking, peeling, the separation of joints, nails popping, etc. However, wood siding can last up to fifteen years if well protected and upkept.

Some homeowners prefer their wooden boards to be stained, because of its natural finish. An important note to consider, however, is the difference in pigment level and strength between stains and paints. Stains are generally more translucent and have thin coverage, compared to the strength and durability of enamel paint. These factors cause stained wooden sides to require yearly maintenance.

Neglected wood will need to be scraped and sanded down to its original base, and before applying a new coat.
