Cabinets are such an important part of your home! A freshly-painted, clean kitchen is inviting to guests and family alike. The right paint job will let you fall in love with your kitchen all over again, and perhaps inspire you to make new, delicious recipes to enjoy with your family and friends.

A kitchen upgrade like this one will also increase your home’s value, more than any other area of your home. If you’ve ever been through the process of shopping for a home, you can relate to how a beautiful kitchen will excuse many sins in the house’s architecture. A typical size kitchen cabinets conversion project will take approximately 5 to 6 days to complete.

Two decades ago, stained cabinets in the kitchen were once very popular. “But now those cabinets are showing their age,” explains Nico Basurto. “They are either deteriorated or their color simply does not look good with today’s color schemes.” The heat, the wear-and-tear of family life, the rush to get meals on– these things weather a kitchen over time. That means it’s time for an update– as this happy client has had Basurto Painting out to do.

Our first step is to take off all the cabinet doors from their frames. We remove the drawers themselves, and then mask all the surrounding areas so as not to accidentally spill paint on them.

On our second step, we sand and prime the frames and the doors. We then patch any nail holes smooth and caulk any joints. Then, a second coat of primer is applied to our exposed wood surfaces. They are then lightly sanded and vacuumed.

Our third step is applying finish. In the pictures you see of the kitchen cabinets, we applied two coats of paint. We’re using a product that is called Gemini EVO in a semi gloss sheen. It’s a waterborne lacquer that provides us with all of the benefits of a solvent-based paint but without that nasty fumes and smells that a solvent base material will release.

With Gemini EVO, your kitchen can be painted while you are living and working in your home. The finish dries very hard and it’s moisture resistant, which is a must have feature for kitchen cabinets– especially around the sink area! The Gemini EVO will also give you an ultra sleek finish, making it very easy to clean.
