A pergola can be an enormously beautiful addition to a home. With time and care, lovely ivy vines and beautiful flowers and roses can climb the walls of your home. But without care, time can also wear down the wood with dry rot, weather damage, and sunwashing.
Basurto Painting recently had a wonderful chance to go inside the CordeValle Country Club, a beautiful luxury resort nestled into the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains between San Jose and Monterey Peninsula. The pergola in question was 15 years old and 30’ x 60’. When the club management discovered dry rot in the wood, they called Basurto Painting.
Our first step was to dig out the dry rot areas and repair any cracks or breaks. To fill the holes, we treated them with a liquid epoxy filler. The two-part epoxy we used is fast-drying, allowing us to carry on with our work quickly and efficiently.
Next, we sanded the patched pergola down into the shape of the wood. Once the wood was whole again, we primed and painted it. The job took us a total of two weeks. But as you can see from the photos, the end result was well worth our time and effort! As you can see, dry rot repair is part of our preparation process before painting.

A little paint goes a long way in the interior garage because it’s typically where we let our design aspirations go. We spend so much time perfecting our living space that the garage can feel like an afterthought. Garages are super usable space if we dedicate enough time to them. Whether your garage is a storage room, workspace, or strictly for your cars, a coat of paint can make all the difference.
