Five Ways To Freshen Up Your Home’s Curb Appeal

Welcome to the April 5th blog! This week, we’re looking at the many ways to freshen up your home’s curb appeal!

Not every step has to be costly, but this is a project over time. Unless you plan on doing all the work with outside contractors, don’t imagine it will all get done in one weekend! Here are our five top ways to fresh up your home’s curb appeal:

1. Cultivate your Green Thumb. Spoil your front yard in extra living beauty. Get the grass in your lawn in good shape; re-sod or re-seed as you need to. Trim and mulch your flower beds. If your yard is mostly a bare grass lawn, consider plantings along your curb to set a beautiful boundary. Group pots of flower beds on the porch that you can transfer to the backyard for new flowers each year.
2. Work on your first impressions. Check that house numbers are easily visible. Consider painting your actual curb a vivid color that accents the color of your home (see the way our actual client did this with their roof color and curb in the photograph above). Consider a third trim color for the house, used thinly to great effect.
3. Put signs of life outside your front door. It’s hard to see a house as a living space when it looks more like a castle, keeping invaders out. Consider investing in some outside furniture to give your home some visible ‘signs of life’. A place to sit and talk in shade with a small table and chairs that can take the weather would be nice. A bird bath would give you something to watch.
4. Clean up the things you notice without actually seeing. By this we mean your roof, your windows, and your siding. Clear out any spider webs or debris in your windows. Wash and repaint your siding to get your color back to what it once was. (Consider trim lines in your accent color!)
5. Project a welcome from the front door. Enhance the front door with a color that welcomes visitors in. Pay attention to the trim of the door and the doorbell, knocker, and any other element of signalling for the guest. Refresh or replace any wreaths or decorations that look ragged.
